中國喜 (chinese hi)

Early October Saturday in Kiev was windy and rainy and gave us a perfect occasion for checking out one of our to-go’s – a recently opened Chinese cafe Китайский привет (Chinese Hi). As for a 22 year old someone, who’s spent 9 months in China, I was truly excited to visit this place. Especially with Shadi (I was sure he’d like the food and hoping it’ll give me some extra points for the “convince Shadi to go to China” mission).

Friendly, smiling, helpful and mostly Asian-looking stuff, the giant golden maneki-neko figure in front of the entrance, simple cozy interior – every detail is a reminder of an authentic Chinese street cafe (the only difference is that this one’s way cleaner). With a good first impression we proceeded to menu.

After a great detox week we decided to get one of their three originally brewed beers (unfiltered wheat beer) for a drink and combined our meal of 5 different dishes: tofu in spicy sauce, fried spinach in garlic sauce, pork dim sum, Chinese noodles soup with meat sauce and rice with fried egg and avocado. I am a vegetarian, so the meat-dishes pleasure was all Shadi’s.

The food was served unexpectedly fast. And appetizing. And stodgy. And absolutely enough for two people to get delightfully full. The only bad thing is that it left absolutely no room for a dessert (the place has a choice of 4 original Chinese desserts). Therefore we left it for another visit, as we would definitely like to come back to Китайский привет again.

P.S. And I guess it did bring me a few steps closer to the accomplishment of my mission.
